About NYC: Hot Neighborhoods: Long Island City

underline

Long Island City is quickly becoming a neighborhood where people move to as they begin to raise their family. Young mothers and fathers walking their children to Gentry Park or Andrews Playground has become a common sight here over the past few years.

But it's hard to say which came first - people's desire to move back into L.I.C, or speculative business people deciding to start investing in high rise developments to lure a new generation of New Yorkers back to this section of Queens. Either way, the developments like Hunters Point South and Citylights have energized Long Island City to a point where it is now one of the most popular places for people moving away from Manhattan. One of the areas where there is concentrated growth is by the East River, which allows residents to take advantage of the prime locations and also enjoy great views.

One of the big reasons that L.I.C. is attracting new residents is the areas increased emphasis on giving people things to do. The opening of a local beach and the moving of the SculptureCenter from Manhattan are just two examples of this. Also, to accommodate the influx of new people, some great new restaurants and exciting nightlife spots have opened up.
