About NYC: Hot Neighborhoods: Inwood
Many people call Inwood the place to live if you want to enjoy Manhattan real estate without feeling like you are living in the middle of the City. It resides on the northern most section of the island, surrounded by rivers on the west, north and east. It is partially isolated on the southern side because many of the North/South streets get cut off before reaching that far North due to the Harlem River. Although initially established by mostly people of Irish decent, Inwood now is home to a large Dominican population. Also drawn to the neighborhood are artists and students, as Inwood has many things they like: reasonable living expenses, access to water and parks, schools and many landmarks. Inwood is definitely not known for a raucous nightlife, as it is more of a neighborhood than the others in Manhattan. This includes its weekly farmers markets and the connection to the local university of the community, Columbia. Because of its narrow size, when you are in Inwood you are always close to a subway station or a bus route. And if you travel by car, a major highway is never too far away. For medical emergencies, Inwood residents can head over to New York Presbyterian Hospital Allen Pavilion. Due to the many parks within its borders, there are plenty of outdoor adventures to be had in Inwood. There is Fort Tryon Park which in addition to being beautiful to walk around, is home to the Cloisters. The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that showcases medieval art and culture. Then there is the wondrous Inwood Hill Park. This is a very unique park for such a populated area, as it has a forest and many caves for exploration. Perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers, it also has a section of fields for anyone participating in individual and team sports. Other outdoor areas include Bennett Park, Highbridge Park and the campus of Columbia University. Even though most of the apartments you see with regards to Inwood real estate will be beautiful brick buildings, there is something to keep in mind. A majority of the apartments for sale will tend to be to the West of Broadway, where to the East you will find more rentals. Please continue to use this site as a resource for other great neighborhoods as well as to find the prefect apartment or condo for you. |
